Joel Dodson

Faculty Representative, Ex-Officio Foundation Board Member

Dr. Joel M. Dodson is Associate Professor of English and the current English Department Graduate Coordinator at Southern Connecticut State University. He teaches courses on early modern British literature (16th and 17th century), classical drama, critical theory, and first-year writing, as well as overseeing the Renaissance Studies Minor at Southern and teaching regularly in the Honors College. Professor Dodson’s recent publications include articles and book chapters on religion and political aesthetics in the work of Sir Philip Sidney, Edmund Spenser, John Donne, and Michel Foucault, and he is currently at work on a book project entitled “The Poverty of Aesthetics in Early Modern England,” which focuses on the role of poverty in Renaissance poetics from Bocaccio to Marlowe. Professor Dodson earned his B.A. in English and Philosophy from Wheaton College (2001) and his Ph.D. in English Renaissance literature from the University of Notre Dame (2011).
