SCSU Alumni Association Board of Directors – Nominations and Elections Process

As a graduate of Southern, alumni automatically become a member of the SCSU Alumni Association, and as a result, are eligible to nominate, vote for, and/or run for a position on the Board of Directors.

Candidate Selection and Eligibility

• Applicants must be graduates of Grand Valley State University (SCSU), over the age of 21 years old.
• Selection criteria is based upon past leadership roles, involvement while a SCSU student, involvement as an alum, current volunteerism, and enthusiasm for the work of the Alumni Board of Directors. Board members are elected by their fellow alumni.
• All Alumni Board of Directors members will be required to follow the Membership Guidelines laid out in the Bylaws.
• Ideal candidates are those whose demonstrated service and leadership display a strong understanding and commitment to the mission and advancement of the University.
• Members must make an annual contribution to the University at a level that is personally meaningful.

Timeline for Elections

Monday, March 2nd: an email to nominate a fellow alumnus or self-nominate will be sent.

Friday, April 10th: the nomination form closes.

Week of April 13th- April 17th: After nominations close, interested nominees will be contacted by the elections committee asking to confirm acceptance of their nomination. Once accepted, nominees will be asked to submit a headshot and brief bio/explanation of why they would like to be a Board member.

Week of April 20th: An electronic election ballot will be emailed to all alumni for whom we have good e-mail addresses and will remain open until the last week of May. Candidate bios will be available on the SCSU alumni website, as well as social media platforms.

Tuesday, May 26th: Voting closes 30 days prior to the last Board meeting of the year, which is Thursday, June 25th.

Wednesday, May 27th – Friday, May 29th: The Elections Committee will deliberate virtually to tally votes. The top individuals will be confirmed by the committee.

Week of June 1st: The Elections Committee will reach out to the nominees via phone to inform them of their status, both those who were elected, and those who were not. Those who have been elected and accept will be invited to the Annual Board meeting to meet the current members and other newly elected members on Thursday, June 25th.
